Coral Reef
How can i make a 3d coral reef model?

We’re learning about biomes in our biology class and we’re supposed too make a 3d model of a biome, and me and my partner chose coral reefs. We’ve brainstormed but we just can’t seem too think of anyway too make it without spending too much or it taking too long.
can anyone help us with some tips on how too make one, what we could use, and stuff like that. i’d would really appreciate it.

You could try getting blocks of Styrofoam and carving out the shapes of coral and painting it…

100 Places to Go Before They Disappear

100 Places to Go Before They Disappear

$24.95

What would our world look like if the planet”s average temperature were to rise by only a few degrees? Venice, Bangkok, London, Chicago, and New York would experience severe flooding. The tea fields of Sri Lanka and the vineyards of France would suffer heat and drought. Beijing and Timbuktu would be transformed into deserts, and the Great Barrier Reef”s coral colonies would die. The entire nation of Tuvalu would sink into the Pacific Ocean. As plants and animals vital to local ecosystems continue to perish due to climate change, the face of our planet is already being transformed. 100 Places to Go Before They Disappear features the locations on all seven continents in the greatest danger of disappearing within our lifetime. With an essay by Desmond Tutu, this stunning book will inspire travelers and environmentalists to save gorgeous places that might soon be only a memory.

3D Big Brother Island - Red Sea, Egypt Waterproof Dive Site Card

3D Big Brother Island – Red Sea, Egypt Waterproof Dive Site Card

$9.95

The Brothers are a pair of tiny islands. Actually they are the exposed tips of two massive reef pillars that rise from the abyssal depths. They are the only significant reefs in the area, and as such act as a magnet for any pelagic and reef fishes. Washed as theyare by the full force of open-sea currents, they support an incredible dense and diverse coral population, with almost overwhelmingly profuse soft coral growth on all sides. Big Brother, the larger of the two, lies about 1km (0.6 miles) north of its sibling. It is an oblong landmass some 400m (1312ft) long, easily identified by its Victorian stone lighthouse, a legacy of British rule. A narrow reef table round the island’s shore gives way almost immediately to a sheer vertical wall, dropping well past the limits of sport diving. Absolutely fantastic coral growth begins at the surface and continues unabated into the depths. Gorgonians, sea whips, antipatharians and, above all, a wealth of soft corals of every conceivable species flourish in the big currents. The stony corals are also well represented. The fish life here is more than impressive, ranging from the tiniest anthias in the shallows to the most impressive sharks in the depths offshore. This unique card provides detailed depiction of the Reef. Each waterproof card is printed on both sides, made of durable PVC plasticand is designed to be taken on the dive. They are also 3-hole punched to fit in standard log books.

3D Dunraven - Red Sea, Egypt Waterproof Dive Site Card

3D Dunraven – Red Sea, Egypt Waterproof Dive Site Card

$9.95

We had heard from a Red Sea dive guide that the Dunraven sank when the Captain went on a drinking binge having found out that his First Mate was sleeping with his wife. He would not tell the First mate how to navigate, so they hit the reef (we have since been told differently it caught fire and drifted onto the reef ). The wreck now lies in two sections next to each other, both of which are penetrable, but there is not always an entire route through. The large brass propeller lies to the north end of the wreck and the reef to the west. The engine can be found in the northern section of the wreck. The sea life is interesting here and a swim along the reef makes a good end to the dive. Napoleon fish are common, as well as lionfish and flathead scorpion fish. There is a particularly impressive brain coral on the reef as you leave the wreck that is only three meters below the surface. This unique cardprovides detailed depiction of the Dunraven Wreck. Each waterproof card is printed on both sides, made of durable PVC plastic and isdesigned to be taken on the dive. They are also 3-hole punched to fit in standard log books.

3D Gercian Rocks - Florida Keys FL, Waterproof Dive Site Card

3D Gercian Rocks – Florida Keys FL, Waterproof Dive Site Card

$8.95

Grecian Rocks is shaped like a half circle. The Reef covers an area about half amile long, and is inshore from the other reefs in this area. It has beautiful spur and groove coral formations that are covered with colorful corals and sponges . The crest of the reef is lined with fingers of elk horn coral and colorful tropical fish. There are areas where the reef is totally out of the water at low tide. On the inside of this reef is a sandy flat expanse that is bordered with thick turtle grass areas. This part of the reef is shallow only 3′ to 6′ deep and there is good chance of seeing Queen Conch. The Conch moves around by motions called leaping and hoping. The Conch is protected, so look don’t touch. Don’t mess with them or pick them up. About 75′ out from the reef on the south side isan Old Spanish Cannon. It was placed here several years ago by the park service. This dive site is a great one for snorkeling. This unique card provides detaileddepiction of Grecian Rocks Reef. Each waterproof card is printed on both sides, made of durable PVC plastic and is designed to be taken on the dive. They are also 3-hole punched to fit in standard log books.

3D Joe's Tug - Key West FL, Waterproof Dive Site Card

3D Joe’s Tug – Key West FL, Waterproof Dive Site Card

$8.95

Joe’s Tug in fact, is an old steel hulled shrimper originally destined as an artificial reef off the coast of Miami. She first sank at the pier in Key West in 1986. It was raised and cleaned in preparation for her planned sinking as an artificial reef in Miami. However, late on the night before it was scheduled to be towed north, a group of locals secretly towed the boat out of Key West harbor. The vessel sank in route to wherever they were headed, landing on the reef in about 65 feet of water. Some say a rum-soaked local pirate did it! Joe’s Tug which is 75 in length now sits in about 65 feet of water in the sand, no longer intact. In 1998, Hurricane Georges picked up the wreck and tore her in half. The bow and stern now lie about 30 feet apart, and the wheelhouse has largely disintegrated over the years. The hull is easily accessible and is usually filled with schooling fish. She sits up right on the ocean floor surrounded by soft and hard coral formations and large sponges. This wreck is home to some very friendly moray eels and inquisitive fish. Joe’s Tug is an easy and rewarding dive for both beginners and experienced divers. Open access to the wheel house and aft deck make this an enjoyable dive. Visibility is usually good due to its location outside of the reef and offers a great photographic location with a wide variety of corals and marine life. Also home to Joe’s Tug is the famous Jewfish named Elvis . Be sure to look for him so that when you go back home after your dive trip, you can tell your friends you actually saw Elvis in Key West!

3D Kormoran - Red Sea, Egypt Waterproof Dive Site Card

3D Kormoran – Red Sea, Egypt Waterproof Dive Site Card

$9.95

The Kormoran was built in the then East Germany in 1963. It’s a small, 1580 ton freighter with two holds forward of an engine and bridge at the stern. Designed to operate in the Baltic winter, it had ice-breaking bows. The strength and angle of the bows doubtless explains why they are still intact and have cut so far into the reef. Meanwhile, damage from the wrecking has been exploited by the waves to flatten everything between the bows and the stern. The wrecking of the Kormoran remains unexplained. The Straits of Tiran are a busy shipping channel, and there are charted shipping lanes with a separation zone about the Tiran reefs. Thesouth-going lane is to the west of the reefs and the north-going lane to the east. In August 1984, the Kormoran drove into the reefat full speed, heading southward from Aqaba with a cargo of phosphate. To hit Laguna Reef, it must have crossed the opposing lane. The ship wasn’t that old, and it’s hard to imagine an insurance job being this far off-course, as there are many opportunities to drive into a reef much closer to the correct shipping lane. Descending upon the wreck you can see some scraps of wreckage on the reef at 45 ft (15m.) The reef is in fantastic condition, terrace on terrace of pristine table corals following the gentle slope into the distance. If it weren’t for the attraction of the wreck, you would be happy just admiring the reef. As it is, you follow the wreckage uphill and the stern of the wreck soon comes into view, twisted towards you on its starboard side. Looking up, the port railing almost breaks the surface. You and your buddy duck round the back of the stern. The propeller and rudder are still in place, rudder amidships. Only a little further forward, the wreck breaks up, leaving a canted diesel engine exposed above a field of flattened plates and girders, sparsely peppered with winches, masts and bollards. Sprigs of table coral have become established on the wreckage, some now a respectable size. The port sid

3D Molasses Reef - Key Largo FL, Waterproof Dive Site Card

3D Molasses Reef – Key Largo FL, Waterproof Dive Site Card

$8.95

Said to be the world’s most popular dive site, Molasses Reef is kept clear by the Gulf Stream off the Atlantic coast of Key Largo. Populated with a very high concentration of animals and corals (especially star & Elkhorn coral), the reef’s inhabitants are a good representation of life throughout the Keys. Look for vase sponges and the sea turtles that flock to them. Many coral formations are shallow enough to make great diving for novices, and spots drop to about 50 feet for the more seasoned explorers. The site got its name from a cargo ship that ran aground while transporting barrels of molasses, but divers can only seethe remains of the Windlass wreck, also known as the Winch. This unique card provides detailed depiction of Molasses Reef. Each waterproof card is printed onboth sides, made of durable PVC plastic and is designed to be taken on the dive. They are also 3-hole punched to fit in standard log books

3D Thunderbolt - Marathon FL, Waterproof Dive Site Card

3D Thunderbolt – Marathon FL, Waterproof Dive Site Card

$8.95

This 188-foot military ship is the jewel of the Marathon wreck fleet. Sunk intentionally as a dive attraction in March 1986, she now sits perfectly uprightin 115 feet of water offering 45 feet of relief. Originally named the USS Randolph, she was built for the U.S. Army as a cable laying boat. She later served FP&L as a research ship to attract and study lightning, hence her name Thunderbolt . After sinking at the dock in Miami, she was later purchased by a group of Keys divers in 1986, prepped as an artificial reef, and scuttled for her destiny as an artificial reef. Her superstructure is now coated with colorful sponge, coral, and hydroid, providing refuge and sustenance to large angelfish, jacks, and a variety of deep-water pelagic creatures. Divers will want to investigate the huge twin propellers and descend into the engine compartment beneath large arches in the main deck. Her bow is dominated by a huge horizontal cable reel. Dropping over the stern of the vessel divers can examine huge twin props. Large hatches off the main deck open into the engine compartments where it is possible to descend into the hull to 110 feet. This unique card provides detailed depiction of Thunderbolt Wreck. Each waterproof card is printed on both sides, made of durable PVC plastic and is designed to be taken on the dive. They are also 3-hole punched to fit in standard log books.

3D Western Samboo - Key West FL, Waterproof Dive Site Card

3D Western Samboo – Key West FL, Waterproof Dive Site Card

$8.95

The Sambo Reefs is a collection of several reefs close to Key West. The area is divided into an Eastern area, a Middle area, and a Western area. The areas are located about four miles south of the Boca Chica Channel. If you go out to the Sambo Reefs, a pole will mark the eastern end of the reefs. This area is used for commercial and recreational diving but it is also used frequently for research purposes there is a Sanctuary Preservation Area marked by orange floats where research is done and fishing and taking lobster are prohibited. However, the rest of the area is great for taking lobster and shelling, especially in the inland grass bed located in shallower water. The Sambos reef line is known for its diverse sea life. The entire area ranges in depth from 10 to 40 feet. One popular spot on the west end of the Western Sambo is 25 feet deep and is frequented by divers. This section offers fields of branching coral that extend in all directions. Around the same area but heading down to 40 feet, a diver can see the heads of many corals abundant with sea life. This site can be seen for about 125 yards. This location is great for a variety of different dives at varying depths. However, if you are in search of collecting shells or other keepsakes, be careful which part of the area you are disturbing. The Sambos offer a variety of diving options and extensive amounts of sea life. The shallow reefs have strands of Elkhorn and stag-horn and tropical fish life is abundant.

3D YO-257 & San Pedro - Oahu Hawaii, Waterproof Dive Site Card

3D YO-257 & San Pedro – Oahu Hawaii, Waterproof Dive Site Card

$9.95

The Wreck of the San Pedro was added as an additional attraction (and an additional artificial reef) in 1996, although partially collapsed by typhoons that have scoured it over the last decade or so, the San Pedro remains a picturesque home for turtles and white tip reef sharks. It’s a popular dive sojourn for photographers. Remember as you dive the wreck that a submarine dive-by? is a possibility. The company that placed the San Pedro, on the bottom still tours regularly with the Atlantis Submarines. An encounterwith a sub provides something extra, exciting and unusual to see. The Sea Tiger, the YO-257 and the San Pedro were all placed on thebottom near Waikiki to provide focal points for submarine tours. All three were immediately adopted by their environments. Thickly covered in underwater growth, the YO-257 is home to a number of turtles, as well as the usual staggering variety of Hawaiian fish. The stern section of this former Navy yard oiler offers a fairly spacious swim-through that is draped in coral – the ocean slowly and gracefully embracing the man-made. This wreck was prepped for divers, with holes cut into its hull for access and egress. The YO-257 rests at just 95 feet.

This seven-book series is a user’s guide to locating Earth’s continents and the countries of the world. Kids will learn that more than 200 million years ago, all continents began as part of Pangaea, a supercontinent that broke up to form seven continents. They will acquire map-reading skills by learning the directions in which longitude and latitude lines point, where the equator is, and what the prime meridian is. The final chapter in each book features a scientist, related to the continent, with specialties that range from dinosaurs to the study of volcanoes. Australia is the smallest continent on Earth. It is also pan of a system of 2,000 islands in the Pacific islands called Oceania. This continent-country is also an island because it is surrounded by water. Australia boasts three great deserts and the largest monolith on Earth, Ayers rock, a place that to the Aboriginal people of Australia is the center of Earth. Off the northeastern coast of Australia is the Great Barrier Reef, a collection of coral reefs. At 1,250 mile long, it is the world’s largest coral reef.

Blue Planet-Seas of Life Part 3

Blue Planet-Seas of Life Part 3

$14.98

We know more about the surface of the moon than we do about the deep oceans, yet the sea constitutes two thirds of our planet. The Blue Planet: Seas Of Life reveals the sea and its communities at their most fearsome and alluring in these two episodes. Seasonal Seas : As the days grow longer, billions of microscopic plankton bloom under the blazing sun. Here in the temperate seas, three-ton basking sharks graze among forests of giant kelp–the fastest growing plant in the world. The forests harbor thousands of other animals, including sea otters, brilliantly colored anemones, squid, and exquisite leafy dragons. But as the year wears on, storms rage in the icy sea…a desperate challenge for the animals that remain. Coral Seas : Bathed in bright sunlight and warm, clear water, the coral reef is a rich oasis of life-the rainforest of the sea. Bizarrely adorned harlequin shrimps carry off a starfish several times their size, while haunting songs reverberate around the reef, heralding the arrival of humpback whales. Shimmering schools of brightly colored fish battle for territory in this competitive world where you have to stand out to survive.

 Ciguatera

Ciguatera

$57.61

Ciguatera is a foodborne illness caused by eating certain reef fishes whose flesh is contaminated with toxins originally produced by dinoflagellates such as Gambierdiscus toxicus which lives in tropical and sub-tropical waters. These dinoflagellates adhere to coral, algae and seaweed where they are eaten by herbivorous fish who in turn are eaten by larger carnivorous fish. In this way the toxins move up the foodchain and bioaccumulate. Gambierdiscus toxicus is the primary dinoflagellate responsible for the production of a number of similar but distinct toxins that cause ciguatera. These toxins include ciguatoxin, maitotoxin, scaritoxin and palytoxin. Predator species near the top of the food chain in tropical and sub-tropical waters, such as barracudas, snapper, moray eels, parrotfishes, groupers, triggerfishes and amberjacks, are most likely to cause ciguatera poisoning, although many other species have been found to cause occasional outbreaks of toxicity.
