Things needed for a bunny rabbit?
I would like to get a bunny rabbit but I’ve never had one before. I wish they had a Bunnies for Dummies book. Please make a list of EVERYTHING needed for a bunny. Include treats harness and all that stuff. Also what type of cage will I need? i have two cats and a dog and i wanted to get a aquarium thing but my cats could jump in it. Oh and about how much does it coast to feed it each month? including treats and little nibble things
Rabbits are happy with company of their own kind and masses of space to bound around in. They are prone to getting sick and vets bills get very expensive too, rabbits are classed as exotic animals in the vet world.
This is my set up, it’s more space than they’d get indoors, my house is tiny! The set up cost about £300. I spend anything from £15-£30 a week on hay, straw, treats, veges etc. I’m in the UK so mine have to vaccinated against Myxomatosis twice a year and VHD once a year, £30 for the two rabbits each go.
I clean out litter trays twice a day, feed twice a day, change water twice a day (they prefer bowls of water to bottles), and fuss over them whenever I can.
RSPCA minimum recommendations is a 6x2x2 hutch and 6×4 run underneath, that’s 36 square foot. Mine have the 36 at night (they are never shut into the hutch) and 72 during the day, plus a free range around most of the garden on nice days, plenty of binkies and bunny 500s! They are very active animals and need to be able to run and stretch when THEY choose to. Rabbits are most active at dawn, dusk and during the night. Mine sleep during the day:
Rabbits are basically quite intensive creatures to look after, more hard work than a cat. They are also surprisingly intelligent creatures and quite devious too. Mine know their names and know when they’ve been naughty! They are very good at getting into things and eating things they shouldn’t so wherever you keep them has to be thoroughly bunny-proofed.
